Rug Fill / Weight Guide
The thermoneutral zone is the temperature range where the body can maintain its core temperature with little to no extra energy expenditure. For humans, this range is quite narrow at 21–28 °C, but for horses it’s much broader at 5–25 °C.
This difference means we should avoid rugging horses based on how cold we feel. Over-rugging can lead to serious health issues, including metabolic problems and thermoregulatory dysfunction.
Tips for Choosing a Winter Rug Weight

Clipped horses may need a heavier gram fill to stay comfortable.

Remember: horses warm themselves more easily than they cool down under a rug. If unsure, choose a lighter rug.

Check your horse regularly to make sure they are neither too hot nor too cold.

Consider your horse’s age and natural ability to stay warm.

As a general guide, rugging is usually appropriate when temperatures drop below 5–10 °C, but always adjust for your horse’s individual needs.

Always ensure rugs are waterproof. A wet rug is worse than no rug at all.

Great service arrived quickly. these are fantastic for keeping a bale together and stoping the horses trampling all over it. Good size holes and strong.

Worked like a treat! Needed to slow the hungry boys down.
Was looking forward to slowing down my hungry hippo horses however this haynet lasted four days before holes appeared and horses were getting their heads into the bale. Did slow them down for the first four days... Just wasn't hardy enough to last longer than four days unfortunately.
Fast delivery. Looked great. Easy too put on. Unfortunatley only slowed my boys down an extra 4 days. & my boys were able too pull a bigger hole in the net . So sadly didn’t do what I had hoped it would for my boys. But otherwise fantastic idea & obviously works well for other horses.

So, what to do with goats who are worse than horses for pulling out hay......once it hits the ground it doesn’t get eaten! This hay net has been awesome, also doubles up as a bed keeping the bale compact and easy to sleep on!
The net is great! It was easy to pull over an already feasted on round bale. Service is fantastic and delivery of item was also great.
Wow! These huge hay feeders are brilliant for winter!! No more carting hay in the rain. Fit perfectly around a large round. Love them!
Great value. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was due to a bit of a design flaw. There are large holes near the draw-string... Big enough for a hoof to fit through.

Good Quality but unfortunately does not fit our 5-foot rounds. It would be more suited to Large square bales and 4-foot rounds.

I had a bit of trouble ordering online but when I called nztack they sorted it quickly and got my order away. I purchased a round bale hay net and it's working well, but after the first night in the paddock they'd made a hole in the net! I think one of the horses caught his bottom teeth on the net as he had some small cuts/bruises behind his bottom back incisors. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm worried it'll happen again. Otherwise the net is working, slowing down hay consumption and preventing waste.
