Thrush can take hold fast in a wet NZ winter. Thrush Plus is a New Zealand made natural remedy from Hippo Health that supports your horse's immune response to thrush in the hoof. Start at the first sign of that strong smell, pasty discharge or dark ooze on the underside of the hoof, then drop back to a weekly maintenance dose once things have cleared up.
DOSING
How To Dose
Dose via the water trough, on a piece of food or a treat, or directly into the mouth using a syringe or the 90ml pump bottle. For nervous horses, pump a dose onto your finger and dab it onto the tongue, gums or lips.
90ml Pump Bottle
Give 2 pumps into the mouth, or on a treat that won't absorb it (carrot or apple), twice a day until symptoms are gone. Then reduce to once a week to maintain.
90ml Pump Bottle = 230 doses (2 pumps per dose). Food grade aluminium bottle with a hygienic serum pump lid and over cap.
Jerry Cans
Water trough: add 25ml (one capful or one pump) to the trough every second day. Dose volume is calculated for a 500 litre trough.
Feed: add half a capful (12ml) or half a pump to feed twice daily.
Dose until symptoms are gone, then reduce to once a week to maintain.
1 litre = 80 days continuous cover via the water trough (dosing every second day) or 40 days dosing on feed (twice daily). Jerry cans are made from food grade plastic.

The thermoneutral zone is the temperature range where the body can maintain its core temperature with little to no extra energy expenditure. For humans, this range is quite narrow at 21–28 °C, but for horses it’s much broader at 5–25 °C.
This difference means we should avoid rugging horses based on how cold we feel. Over-rugging can lead to serious health issues, including metabolic problems and thermoregulatory dysfunction.
Tips for Choosing a Winter Rug Weight

Clipped horses may need a heavier gram fill to stay comfortable.

Remember: horses warm themselves more easily than they cool down under a rug. If unsure, choose a lighter rug.

Check your horse regularly to make sure they are neither too hot nor too cold.

Consider your horse’s age and natural ability to stay warm.
