A slow-release electrolyte powder. The difference here is in how it's delivered rather than what's in it — sodium is released gradually into the gut instead of arriving all at once.
Why slow-release matters
Feed a big concentrated dose of electrolytes and blood levels spike, which sounds like the goal. The problem is the spike also drives the kidneys to excrete harder, so a good part of what you just fed gets flushed straight back out. Released slowly, sodium is absorbed and actually used, so the horse holds on to what you're giving it.

Mix through the daily feed. Clean water should be available at all times — electrolytes drive thirst, and a horse that can't drink is worse off than one you never supplemented.

The thermoneutral zone is the temperature range where the body can maintain its core temperature with little to no extra energy expenditure. For humans, this range is quite narrow at 21–28 °C, but for horses it’s much broader at 5–25 °C.
This difference means we should avoid rugging horses based on how cold we feel. Over-rugging can lead to serious health issues, including metabolic problems and thermoregulatory dysfunction.
Tips for Choosing a Winter Rug Weight

Clipped horses may need a heavier gram fill to stay comfortable.

Remember: horses warm themselves more easily than they cool down under a rug. If unsure, choose a lighter rug.
