The thermoneutral zone is the temperature range where the body can maintain its core temperature with little to no extra energy expenditure. For humans, this range is quite narrow at 21–28 °C, but for horses it’s much broader at 5–25 °C.
This difference means we should avoid rugging horses based on how cold we feel. Over-rugging can lead to serious health issues, including metabolic problems and thermoregulatory dysfunction.
Tips for Choosing a Winter Rug Weight

Shield your horse from the sun and insects with the Horseware® Newmarket Plus Fly Sheet. Providing a combination of UV and fly protection this fly sheet is made of a new woven polyester mesh with PVC coating. The innovative fabric is breathable yet durable to protect your horse day after day.
A silky-smooth lining on the mane, shoulder, and tail areas help reduce friction and prevent rubs. Extra long tail flap and included detachable hood provide maximum coverage.
Front leg arches allow for greater freedom of movement while classic straight front closures, cross surcingles, and tail string keep the fly sheet securely in place. Rear loops allow for optional leg strap use.
