The thermoneutral zone is the temperature range where the body can maintain its core temperature with little to no extra energy expenditure. For humans, this range is quite narrow at 21–28 °C, but for horses it’s much broader at 5–25 °C.
This difference means we should avoid rugging horses based on how cold we feel. Over-rugging can lead to serious health issues, including metabolic problems and thermoregulatory dysfunction.
Tips for Choosing a Winter Rug Weight

The Horseware Ionic® Therapy Liner (50g Light) turns any of our liner compatible turnouts into a therapeutic rug and adds extra warmth without bulk. A breathable 210T polyester upper keeps your horse dry and ceramic liner reflects body heat back as far infrared rays.
Our ceramic minerals are infused during the yarn extrusion process, resulting in superior far infrared emissivity that won't wash out.
Velcro-Loop & Clip System guarantees a secure fit, attaching to the neck area and back corners to prevent slipping. Single front closure is quick and practical.
