A New Zealand-made powdered supplement that's been on shelves here for close to 30 years. The maker's approach is nutritional rather than chemical — the idea being that a well-nourished animal is a less appealing host for fleas.
It's a supplement, not an insecticide, so treat it as something you run alongside a flea programme rather than in place of one if you already have an infestation.
What's in it
Yeast, garlic, wheatgerm, kelp, dolomite, ascorbic acid, lecithin, wheat bran and sulphur.
How to feed
- Cats, kittens, puppies and small to medium dogs — ½ to 1 teaspoon daily
- Large dogs — 1 dessertspoon daily
Sprinkle over wet or dry food, or rub it into the coat for them to take in while grooming. Also used for guinea pigs, rabbits, rats and chickens.
The formula contains garlic. If your dog or cat has a health condition, is on medication, or is pregnant, check with your vet before starting it.

The thermoneutral zone is the temperature range where the body can maintain its core temperature with little to no extra energy expenditure. For humans, this range is quite narrow at 21–28 °C, but for horses it’s much broader at 5–25 °C.
This difference means we should avoid rugging horses based on how cold we feel. Over-rugging can lead to serious health issues, including metabolic problems and thermoregulatory dysfunction.
Tips for Choosing a Winter Rug Weight

Clipped horses may need a heavier gram fill to stay comfortable.

Remember: horses warm themselves more easily than they cool down under a rug. If unsure, choose a lighter rug.
