zilco-tom-thumb-bit
Zilco Tom Thumb Bit

A loose ring bit with wings, and one of the most popular all rounders on the market. The wings keep the bit from being pulled through the mouth and bring in a little lip pressure as the rein comes on, which gives a young or green horse a clear steer. Choose stainless steel for the harder wearing finish, or nickel plated malleable iron as the more affordable option. Worth noting this is the Australian pattern Tom Thumb, not the USA model of the same name, which is a completely different bit.

Loose rings with winged cheeks

Wings stop the bit sliding through the mouth and apply light lip pressure

Stainless steel or nickel plated malleable iron

Mouth thickness 13mm

Stainless steel in 9cm (3 1/2 inch) through to 14cm (5 1/2 inch)

Nickel plate in 10cm (4 inch) through to 14cm (5 1/2 inch)
